Home renovation contracts in Connecticut are strictly governed by the Connecticut Home Improvement Act (C.G.S. Title 20, Chapter 400) enforced by the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP). Under CT law, any contract exceeding $200 that fails to meet these mandatory requirements can be declared legally unenforceable by the contractor:

• Mandatory HIC Registration Number: All home improvement contractors working in Connecticut must be registered with the CT Department of Consumer Protection and carry an active HIC (Home Improvement Contractor) Registration Number. This number must appear in writing on the front of the contract.
